New Year, New Post (yeah, I’m almost 2 months late)
I noticed that it’s been a while since I’ve posted anything here. Since we’re almost two months into 2011, it’s probably about time I’ve posted some kind of update.
So, let’s see…
Mom has decided to go through the assessment process in order to donate a kidney. Unfortunately, she won’t be giving it to me. She’s not a match for me. We’ve decided to sign up with the Paired Donor Exchange Program with the hopes that someone who is a match to Mom has a friend willing to donate that is a match to me. Sometimes these matches can go up to 4 or 6 pairs. These are called donor chains, and personally, I think they’re kind of neat.
The only thing that bothers me, is that if Mom and I get matched with another pair, she would have to travel to where the other recipient is. Since we have the surgeries at the same time, Mom wouldn’t be with me when I was getting my kidney, because she would be somewhere else giving a kidney to someone else. My mom was always there during my recovery after transplant. I’m a little nervous about her not being there.
Other than that, 2011 has been a little slow.
